Nineteen People Displaced After Apartment Fire In DeKalb
A raging fire consumed five units at an apartment complex in Doraville, authorities say. Nineteen people were displaced, but no injuries.
DORAVILLE, GA -- Sixteen people are having to start over after a raging fire tore through an apartment building early Tuesday in DeKalb County, authorities said. The fire happened just after 1 a.m. at Shallowford Garden Apartments at 3630 Shallowford Road in Doraville.

"There were no reports of civilian injuries however one firefighter was being evaluated for possible heat exposure," DeKalb Fire's Public Affairs Instagram account posted early Tuesday. "Fire Investigators are on scene to determine cause and origin as to how the fire started."

The Red Cross said that it helped nearly two dozen people from the five units burned in the blaze.

"Red Cross volunteers responded to an early morning fire affecting 5 units at the Shallowford Gardens apartments, and provided assistance for 19 people to help with emergency needs such as food, clothing and shelter," agency spokeswoman Sherry Nicholson told Patch. "Caseworkers will continue to work with the families in the days ahead to help them get back on their feet."

DeKalb firefighters are still investigating the blaze and its cause.
