Preschoolers Celebrated Read Across America Day With More than 45 Million Readers Nationwide

Festivities Included Local Mystery Guest Readers and Dr. Seuss Hats

In honor of the National Education Association’s Read Across America Day, more than 150 children at the Primrose School of Five Forks celebrated literacy with more than 45 million readers nationwide. The preschoolers, ranging in age from 1 to 5 years old, wore handmade Dr. Seuss costumes, made “One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish” snacks and participated in various other Seuss-type festivities.

Local mystery guest readers included Amanda Martin, wife to State Senator P.K. Martin IV (District 9 – Lawrenceville), City of Lilburn Mayor, Johnny Crist, City of Snellville Mayor, Kelly Kautz and Gwinnett Librarian, DeAnna Espinoza as well as several Primrose parents. They spoke to the children about the importance of literacy and what it means to them in their careers and lives.

Read Across America Day is an annual reading motivation and awareness program that calls for every child in every community to celebrate reading on or around Dr. Seuss’ birthday.
