Store Closings on Thanksgiving Day

The list of retailers that have confirmed they won't be open on Thanksgiving is growing by the day.

Black Friday is less than a month away, and headlines were already buzzing this past week over REI’s decision to close not only on Thanksgiving but also the biggest shopping day of the year.

Now, a website called BestBlackFriday.com is keeping track of other retailers and stores that will be closed on Thanksgiving. So far, only REI and Outdoor Research will be closed on Black Friday, but we’ll see if any other business follows suit.

For year, Black Friday has creeped further into Thanksgiving Day itself, with retailers opening up on the holiday. It not only pulls shoppers away from their families, but more importantly, boycotters argue, those who have to work in these retail stores.

Groups such as Boycott Black Thursday urge shoppers to fight the movement, asking, “Boycott any retailer that chooses to extend massive Black Friday sales into Thanksgiving Day. Protect the employees, protect the family.
