Taste of Tucker presents $13,000 to NETWorks Cooperative

Taste of Tucker raises $13,000 for NETWorks Cooperative Ministry

Art and Karen Wood, directors of the annual Taste of Tucker street festival, recently presented a check for just over $13,000 to David Fisher, director of NETWorks Cooperative Ministry, a coalition of 17 churches fighting hunger and poverty in the Northlake, Embry Hills and Tucker area.

“It’s a lot of fun putting on a community celebration that brings out over five thousand food lovers and features our local restaurants,” Karen Wood said, “But raising money for our charities transforms that enthusiasm into something even more rewarding.”

Fisher explained that the funds help NETWorks supply badly needed food and financial support for local residents. “At our average cost of food in 2016, this donation represents more than 185,000 pounds of food. Or, on another measure, given the average amount we give in financial assistance, it represents 65 families helped with rent or utility bills.”

The food celebration in its seventh year also raised funds for EIRO, a consulting service that works to promote community involvement of churches, and the Old Town Tucker Merchants Association, bringing Taste of Tucker’s total charitable contributions to $19,000.
