Trader Joe’s Recalling Salsa, Balela in Georgia

Although no illnesses have been reported, Trader Joe’s is recalling salsa and balela sold in stores in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and southern Virginia. The recall was prompted by an announcement by Simmering Soup that listeria monocytogenes was found at one of its plants. Diced onions from that plant were included in products that Trader Joe’s recalled.

On its website, Trader Joe’s announced the following products have been recalled:

• Trader Joe's Fresh Mild Salsa (16oz) with a use by Date of 8/9/12
• Trader Joe's Balela with a use by Date of 7/31/12

These products were only sold in the six southern states noted and Trader Joe’s recalled the products as a precautionary measure. Listeria was not found in the diced onions, just in the plant that processed them. Any of these products can be returned for a full refund.
