Tucker Lawmaker Targeted For Opposing Heartbeat Bill
Georgia lawmakers recently passed the Heartbeat Bill in the face of opposition from women's rights groups and Hollywood actors.

ATLANTA -- Several metro Atlanta lawmakers, including one from Tucker, are being targeted in their reelection bids for voting against Georgia's strict new abortion law. The Family Policy Alliance of Georgia said it hopes to replace state Rep. Jasmine Clark (D-108) "with pro-life legislators in 2020." Clark voted against the recently passed House Bill 481, known as the Heartbeat Bill.
"We strive for a Georgia where life is cherished, and the Heartbeat Bill takes a great step toward protecting the most vulnerable among us,” said Cole Muzio, President and Executive Director of Family Policy Alliance of Georgia. “These representatives in competitive districts took a position contrary to nearly 70% of Americans -- that unborn children with beating hearts have value and are worth protecting. We plan to take this message to their districts, identify candidates who will stand on the side of life, and support their candidacies.”
Georgia lawmakers approved one of the nation's strongest abortion laws in the closing hours of the recently adjourned General Assembly. House Bill 481, authored by state Rep. Ed Setzler (R-Acworth), prohibits most abortions after six weeks from conception. The Living Infants Fairness and Equality Act would allow abortions only in cases where the mother's life or health is in danger, or in cases of medical emergency. The bill also says an unborn child at any stage of development in the womb would be included in state population-based counts.

Gov. Brian Kemp has been a major supporter of the bill and is expected to sign it into law.
The bill passed only hours after dozens of actors and Hollywood celebrities threatened to boycott Georgia if the measure becomes law, with actress Alyssa Milano leading the charge. She said she will urge TV and film production companies to abandon the state if the bill becomes law.
