Fernbank Science Center Hosting Astronomy Convention

ALCON 2013, the Astronomical League Convention, will be held Wednesday-Saturday at the science center at 156 Heaton Park Drive.


The Astronomical League Convention will be held Wednesday-Saturday at the Fernbank Science Center.

The Atlanta Astronomy Club is sponsoring ALCON 2013.

Speakers include Chris Hetlage of the Deerlick Astronomy Village, a dark sky community; Richard Schmude, author of “The Remote Planets: Uranus and Neptune” and “The Polar Caps of Mars: 2007-2012;″ Doug Hrabe, director of the Fernbank Science Center; Dan Llewellyn, author of “High Resolution Planetary Imaging with a Color Camera” and “Best Capture and Processing Techniques for Color and Mono Cameras;” and Kelly Beatty of Sky and Telescope magazine.

The keynote speaker for the Saturday awards banquet is Charles Wood, the Sky and Telescope Lunar 100 creator.

On Friday a "StarBQ" will be held at the Agnes Scott College Bradley Observatory.
