Emory University Investigating Respected Professor's Fake Identity

News about Rabbi Michael Broyde using a fake ID years ago to join a rabbinical group years ago "concerning to the law school" where he teaches, the university said.

Emory University says it is investigating claims that a respected rabbi and professor at its law school, Michael Broyde, used a fake identity to join a rabbinical group.

The university did not comment on the issue surrounding Broyde – who also founded Young Israel of Toco Hills – but said it would after it investigates, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

From the story:

Emory, where Broyde is identified on the school’s website as a professor of law and senior fellow at the Center for the Study of Law and Religion, said it is investigating the allegations.

In a statement released Monday, Emory said the allegations “are concerning to the law school.”

“We are currently reviewing the matter and plan to issue a statement once our inquiry is complete,” the statement said.

Broyde declined to comment to the AJC, but The Jewish Channel, which first published a story about the fake identity, ran a letter last week that it said was from Broyde admitting to using the pseudonym.
