Monday Essentials: Jazz At Callanwolde
Here are five ways to have some fun this week in and around Virginia Highland and Druid Hills.

Jazz on the Lawn. Composer and jazz keyboard artist Madoca and her band will perform at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Callanwolde Arts Center. Bring a blanket to sit on. $15 in advance, $20 at the door.
Civil War film. A movie titled Jewish Soldiers in Blue and Gray will be shown at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Cyclorama at 800 Cherokee Avenue SE. A reception with filmmaker Jonathan Gruber will be held at 6:30 p.m., followed by the movie.
Peace, Love and Watermelon. Free watermelon 5-8 p.m. Saturday at Candler Park as part of the pre-movie festivities.
Live music. At Blind Willie's, Bill Sheffield on Monday, Mudcat on Tuesday, Andrew Black on Wednesday, Tommy Brown on Thursday and Friday and Big Bill Morganfield on Saturday. At Limerick Junction, Galen Crader Wednesday-Saturday. At the Family Dog, Pioneer Chick'n Stand on Saturday and Jez Graham Jazz Trio with Gwen Hughes on Sunday.
History for Bulldogs. Carrol Dadisman will talk about his new book, Dear Old UGA, a history of the school told through stories from the student newspaper, The Red and Black. He's a former editor for the paper. 7:15 p.m. Thursday at the Decatur Library. Presented by the Georgia Center for the Book. Free.
