Monday Essentials: Energy Guru At Emory

Here are five things to know about the coming week in and around Virginia Highland and Druid Hills.

Anthony Lovins to speak. The physicist, whom Time named one of the world's 100 most influential people in 2009, will speak at 12:30 p.m. Monday at the Rollins School of Public Health at 1518 Clifton Road. He is cofounder and chief scientist of the Rocky Mountain Institute, an independent, think tank that focuses on efficient and restorative use of resources. Free and open to the public.

Be a good egg. On Monday, Intown Hardware in Virginia Highland will start selling $5 raffle tickets for a Big Green Egg grill with accessories worth $1,118. The drawing is Aug. 31 and proceeds benefit the Atlanta Humane Society.

Andrea Sneiderman trial. Expect a media scrum around the DeKalb Justice Center in Decatur this week. Andrea Sneiderman, widow of the man gunned down outside a Dunwoody daycare center, will go on trial, but not for murder. That charge was thrown out last week. She'll face about a dozen lesser counts.

Semi-pro basketball tryouts. The Atlanta Aliens will hold regional tryouts at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Grant Park basketball facility at 537 Park Ave. SE.

Learn to knit. A two-day intro class to knitting will be held at Belly General Store 772 N. Highland Ave. NE. Starts at 10 a.m. Saturday.
