Six Dozen Emory University Students Fall Ill, Cause Under Investigation

74 students have undergone treatment for a gastrointestinal illness.

Emory University and DeKalb County health officials are working to discover the cause of an outbreak of gastrointestinal illness on campus which has affected more than 70 students.

The Clayton News-Daily reports that 74 Emory students have been treated for the illness as of Thursday evening. Some students were treated on campus, while others were sent to the emergency room at Emory University Hospital. Officials do not yet know what caused the outbreak.

The DeKalb County Board of Health has determined that the university’s dining facilities had nothing to do with the outbreak, but are investigating left-over food to see if it may have been responsible.
