A fast-moving storm downed at least one tree and knocked out power in parts of Virginia Highland early Thursday night.

A resident posted a Facebook photo of a burning tree. Cell phone video posted on WSB-TV showed a tree down and lying across North Highland, the neighborhood's main drag.

It appears areas outside Atlanta took harder hits. Fox 5 reported that 100,000 lost power and that numerous trees were downed between Dunwoody and Chamblee.

A Twitter user said that in Dunwoody power signals were knocked out at Tilly Mill and Mount Vernon roads, causing a traffic mess around 9 p.m. Another Twitter user said all of Brookhaven had lost power.

WSB.com reported that a severe thunderstorm watch has been for metro Atlanta until 1 a.m. Friday. There was a moderate threat of hail, the television station reported.
