Three School Officials to Represent DeKalb County on Governor's Advisory Boards

Each of the four advisory boards advises Gov. Nathan Deal on education policies and action.

Georgia Governor Nathan Deal announced the new members to his Education Advisory Boards, which include three educators and officials from DeKalb County.

Joining the boards are DeKalb County and Decatur City Schools superintendents Michael Thurmond and Dr. Phyllis Edwards, along with Decatur High School Principal Noel Maloof.

“Throughout my term, the members of these advisory boards have provided invaluable feedback on policy issues including improving the percentage of Georgia’s students reading on grade level by the third grade and encouraging innovation in STEM education,” Deal said in a release.

The governor appoints members to one of four education advisory boards, which are broken into the categories of superintendents, principals, educators, and school board members.

Board advisors will meet with Deal over the next year to offer input on state education policies.
