You Can Celebrate Georgia (The Country, Not The State) This Week

What's happening this week in and around Virginia Highland and Druid Hills? You can hear poet W.S. Merwin, enjoy chamber music, take part in a 3-mile run/walk and learn about Georgian culture.

W.S. Merwin visits Emory University. The 2010 U.S. Poet Laureate and two-time Pulitzer Prize winner visits for conversation, a poetry reading and book signing. 6 p.m. Monday at the Robert W. Woodruff Library at 540 Asbury Circle. Free admission.

My Mother has Sole 3-Mile Family Fun Run/Walk. This Mother's Day weekend race encourages healthy families and benefits the Nicholas House Homeless Shelter. Starts at 7 a.m. Saturday at Manuel's Tavern. $20-$30.

Chamber music. The Emory Chamber Music Society of Atlanta performs at noon Friday at the Michael C. Carlos Museum at Emory University, 571 S. Kilgo Circle NE. Free.

Celebrating Georgia, the country, not the state. The Georgian Cultural Festival was created to introduce and educate the local residents about the rich traditions and customs of the country Georgia. Includes traditional food, music and dance. 4 to 9 p.m. Saturday in John Howell Park at Virginia Ave NE & Barnett St NE. Free admission.
