The BOLD Act, the Best Role for Government
The BOLD Act for Alzheimer's establishes an infrastructure nationally to Support State Agency's and local health departments in meeting the this national health crisis. The BOLD Act would strengthen and effectively implement the Healthy Brain Initiative developed in 2005 by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). This Initiative created the Public Health Roadmap which includes action items to promote cognitive functioning, address cognitive impairment and meet the needs of caregivers. The CDC leads the public health efforts and funds most state's health activities. This positions them to best fill the role of Centers of Excellence required under the BOLD Act for Alzheimer's.
Today we have 190 cosponsors in the House of Representatives, with several more committed but not official. In the Senate, we have 51 cosponsors, over half of the senators. We have a way to go to before they will bring to a vote.
I urge you to ask your Congressman and Senators to cosponsor the BOLD Act for Alzheimer's S. 2076/ H.R.4256 and encourage their leadership to bring to the floor for a vote. I thank Congressman David Scott of Georgia District 13 for his Cosponsorship of the BOLD Act.
