Register's new role is a return to his roots in many ways. He worked for Cobb's Police Department from 1986 to 2005, serving as a SWAT commander. He experience also includes stints at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. and with the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force Executive Board.
Register is an adjunct professor at Columbus State, where he earned a master’s degree in public administration. He takes the place of former Chief John Houser, who retired in January after 35 years.
