Cobb to Celebrate Juneteenth

The Cobb County Branch of the NAACP is gearing up for two days of Juneteenth celebrations this weekend at Glover Park.

Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, the day that slaves in Texas learned of the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation. 

In recent years, other parts of the country have embraced the day and held their own events.

Cobb is no exception.

Local celebrations will kick off at 7 p.m. Friday with the 4th Annual Juneteenth Evening Under the Stars, which will feature the sounds of smooth jazz, R&B and spoken word poetry.

It continues at 10 a.m. Saturday with the 10th Annual Juneteenth Celebration, a day of entertainment, food, giveaways and more.
