Investigation Continues Into Teen's Shooting In Kennesaw

Teen was shot Thursday in the Brookwood Commons subdivision. Nearby Baker Elementary School was briefly put on lockdown.

WEST COBB, GA — The Kennesaw Police Department updated the public Friday in the investigation into the shooting of a teenager the day before in an upper-middle class neighborhood.

Kennesaw officers responded to a person shot call on Clairesbrook Lane in the Brookwood Commons subdivision about 11:30 a.m. Thursday, police said.

After a teenager was shot Thursday, nearby Baker Elementary School was briefly put on lockdown as a precaution, alarming parents of children at the school.

In a post Friday on Facebook, Kennesaw police said the investigation is continuing.

"Our detectives are top notch and are fully focused on the investigation. We cannot release much more than we have so not to jeopardize the ongoing investigation. We can say at this time there is no danger to the general public."

According to WSB-TV, a 16-year-old was wounded in the incident, but told police varying stories on how it happened. Images from news choppers show law enforcement officers combing a woodsy area behind big homes' manicured lawns.

"Upon arrival, officers confirmed there was a gunshot victim. The victim was immediately transported to the hospital. Kennesaw Officers are at both the hospital and the incident scene investigating and canvassing the area," police said Thursday.

Kennesaw police said that they will update the public as more information became available.
