Ensure access to Quality Long Term Care for Individuals Living with Dementia
Numerous people living with dementia, experiencing anxiety and behavioral issues are being refused admittance to Long Term Care (LTC) facilities. Sadly, many Alzheimer's patients must be removed from these facilities if these behaviors become aggressive and unmanageable. Their families are unable to find other facilities to accept them and can’t afford or provide the professional care needed by their loved one. Basically, this is denying the patient of promised care under Medicaid. The House of Representatives should urge the Georgia Alzheimer's and Related Dementias (GARD) Advisory Council to review the strengths and weaknesses of the current regulations, as well as assess opportunities for improving access and availability of quality long term care. Since 61 percent of nursing patients have mild or severe cognitive impairment, this has become a critical and growing issue.GARD should develop and bring back to the General Assembly recommendations and any legislation needed to improve access and quality within this complex issue.
Ask your Georgia Candidates, if elected:
What will you do to ensure access to Long Term Care for all Alzheimer's and Dementia patients?
I thank Rep Michael Smith and Senator Jen Jordan for their support during the 2018 session.
