One Dead in Austell Crash

Several other people were injured early Monday morning.

Austell, GA -- A crash involving an SUV and a car resulted in one person dead and several other injured early Monday morning.

The accident happened on C.H. James Parkway near Garrett Road, according to police.

Marquis McKnight, 19, of Hiram, was driving a beige Lexus on C.H. James, heading north, while Serge Laguerre, 48, of Atlanta, was heading south in a Ford Escape. Police say McKnight was overtaking slower traffic when he abruptly steered to the left and lost control. He collided with the SUV.

Laguerre, his front seat passenger and three children were taken to local hospitals for treatment. McKnight was also sent to a local hospital, but his front seat passenger, DeAndre Johnson, 20, of Douglasville, died at the scene.

Police say charges are expected to be filed in the collision.
