Powder Springs Carnival Canceled; SpringsFest Still On

The inaugural carnival was supposed to be held July 1-4, but the carnival's owner and his family were in an accident.

POWDER SPRINGS, GA — The inaugural Powder Springs Carnival is canceled after the carnival's owner and his family were in a car accident, the city of Powder Springs announced over the weekend.

The carnival was scheduled for July 1-4, but Lawrence Carr, the owner of Carr Carnival, and his family were in a car crash that left his wife dead, according to a news release. Carr's son also remains in the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

"Carr initially thought that he would carry on with the carnival but informed organizers Friday that he would not be able to move forward with the event," the release said.

Ricketts Rhodes Events, which was managing event preparations, contacted multiple operators in an effort to book a replacement company to put on the carnival, but none had availability nor the capacity to mobilize in a short amount of time, officials said in the release.

The annual SpringsFest will still be held as scheduled on July 4 from noon to 10 p.m. For more information, visit springsfest4th.com.
