Powder Springs Man Sentenced to 30 Years For Assaulting Wife

Rodney Tyrone Mack pled guilty to aggravated assault, aggravated battery, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

MARIETTA, GA -- A Powder Springs man will spend three decades in prison for assaulting and nearly killing his wife.

On Monday, as jury selection for his trial was set to begin, Rodney Tyrone Mack, 46, pled guilty to aggravated assault, aggravated battery, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Mack acknowledged that in the pre-dawn hours of Oct. 23, 2015, he and his wife of 10 years began arguing. Mack retrieved a 12-gauge shotgun and pointed it at his wife while threatening to kill her. As he fired one shot, his wife pushed the barrel of the gun away and she then fell to the floor. Mack then hit her with the weapon, breaking her ribs, before firing another shot, which struck her arm.

The victim had called 911 and left the line open, allowing dispatchers to hear what was happening and quickly send police to the couple’s Powder Springs home. On the 911 recording, the woman can be heard begging for her life.

“The investigation found that his violence against her had escalated over time, though prior incidents were not reported. I believe he would have killed her if Cobb Police had not arrived so quickly,” ADA Paul Camarillo said.
