CCSD Makes Decision About Jan 19 Classes

BREAKING: While there have been some improvements in road conditions around Cherokee County, many secondary streets remain hazardous.

WOODSTOCK, GA — After communicating with county emergency management, law enforcement and roads and bridges officials, the Cherokee County School District said will remain closed for students on Friday, Jan. 19.

The system said it made its decision based on continued icy and hazardous conditions on secondary roads and at multiple school campuses in various parts of the county. However, all 12-month employees are to report to their worksites at 10 a.m. or notify their supervisor if they can't make that trip safely.

While travel conditions have improved dramatically around the county, there are still areas where snow and ice remain hazardous to motorists. Any moisture on the roads that did not dry up Thursday will refreeze, meaning drivers will have to watch out for black ice if they hit the road Friday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

According to a public information statement outlining unofficial accumulation totals around Georgia, less than a inch of snow fell on Cherokee County late Tuesday and into Wednesday.
