Cherokee Foreclosure Filings See Year-Over-Year Decrease: Report

Foreclosure filings in the county for February 2018 decreased when compared to the previous year.

CHEROKEE COUNTY, GA — Foreclosure activity in Cherokee County for February 2018 saw a 53 percent year-over-year decrease from February 2017, and saw an additional 56-percent drop from January 2018, according to ATTOM data.

According to ATTOM, there were 18 foreclosure filings in Cherokee County last month. Based on Census Bureau estimates, there are 85,926 housing units in the county, so one in every 4,774 properties in Cherokee County had a foreclosure filing.

So, how does Cherokee County compare to its neighbors in year-over-year figures? Cobb experienced a 29-percent decrease while Bartow County had a 35-percent decrease. Other counties include Fulton a 13-percent increase, Forsyth 67-percent drop and Pickens with no change.

Foreclosure activity had an overall year-over-year decrease in the U.S. for February 2018, reaching an all-time low for as far back as ATTOM has data available, which dates back to April 2005. For the Peach State, Georgia also had an overall year-over-year decrease in foreclosure filings, dropping from 31 percent from 2017. There were 1,618 foreclosure filings last month across Georgia, down from 2,185, or 25 percent, in January of this year.

Based on Census Bureau information, there were 4.2 million housing units in the state, and last month's 1,618 foreclosure filings indicate one in every 2,569 properties around Georgia were subjected to a filing.
