Cherokee Makes Decision About Jan 16 After-School Activities
BREAKING: The National Weather Service says up to an inch of light snow could move into Cherokee and much of north Georgia on Tuesday.

CANTON, GA — In anticipation of the predicted winter weather expected to move into north Georgia, the Cherokee County School District has called off all evening and extracurricular activities for Tuesday, Jan. 16.
Parents should note that elementary after school programs will remain open. However, parents are strongly encouraged to pick up their little ones before 5 p.m. Tuesday, system spokesperson Barbara Jacoby said.
Chattahoochee Technical College also announced it will be closing its campuses at 5 p.m. Tuesday, adding there will be no evening classes. Reinhardt University announced it will cancel classes that begin at 6 p.m.

The Winter Weather Advisory issued by the National Weather Service for Cherokee County will go into effect from 5 p.m. Tuesday to 7 a.m. Wednesday. A wind chill advisory will also take effect Tuesday, starting at 9 p.m. and ending at 1 p.m. Wednesday.
Light snow and very cold wind chills expected today, with total accumulations of up to 1 inch predicted for the area. Residents should also expect wind chills ranging from 15 above to 5 below 0 degrees.

Light snow will cause travel difficulties while the cold wind chills can cause frostbite in as little as 30
minutes to exposed skin, NWS states.
