I-75 Express Lanes To Open Sept. 8 In Cherokee County

WOODSTOCK, GA — The Northwest Corridor Express Lanes will open to southbound traffic on Saturday, Sept. 8, the office of Gov. Nathan Deal said Tuesday.

The office notes the lanes will open mid-morning on Saturday, marking the completion of the largest infrastructure of this kind in Georgia's history. The first 14 days of operation will be free for motorists with registered Peach Passes "to encourage commuters to utilize the express lanes," the governor's office notes.

Georgia Department of Transportation spokesperson Natalie Dale said the lanes will stay in the southbound direction until midday Monday when they will reverse to the northbound for the first time.

The project adds about 30 miles of express lanes on Interstate 75 from Akers Mill Road to Hickory Grove Road in Cobb County and along Interstate 575 from I-75 in Cobb to Sixes Road in Cherokee County. A ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion of the project will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12.
