Father, Son Arrested For Using Fake Police Siren On Car: Police

A 51-year-old father and his 17-year-old son, of Roswell, were arrested in Woodstock Saturday for using a fake emergency siren on their car.

WOODSTOCK, GA — A father and son were arrested this weekend in Woodstock after they were caught driving around the city using an emergency siren on their car and a PA system telling people to get out of their cars.

Cherokee Sheriff's deputies received a call at 11 a.m. Saturday about a truck driving around Woodstock using a siren and a PA system instructing people to get out of their vehicles.

Dispatchers were able to hear the siren and someone saying, "get out of your car" during the 911 call. The woman who called 911 was able to keep the other vehicle behind her, and eventually in front of her, as she drove, so she could provide a license plate number.

"Kids don't know this is how kids get killed accidentally," the 911 caller can be heard saying in the call. "It's sad because they are just young kids, but it is a very dangerous game they're playing."

Deputies found the driver and passengers of the vehicle after the car stopped at a shopping center in the Towne Lake area.

Cherokee Sheriff's Office Captain Jay Baker said the passenger of the vehicle, Ryan Schmidt, 51, of Roswell, was operating the siren and PA system while his 17-year-old son, Luke, drove the vehicle.

"Ryan told deputies he had recently purchased the siren and PA and was showing it off to his son and friends in the vehicle," Baker said in a press release. "There were three additional passengers in the vehicle."

Luke was arrested and charged with use of an emergency siren and aggressive driving. Ryan was arrested and charged with use of an emergency siren and party to the crime/aggressive driving.

Both were booked and bonded out of the Cherokee Adult Detention Center. They were released on $2,035 bonds.
