Former Woodstock Mayor Bill Long Dies At 89
Long's legacy lives on in Woodstock, as the city's senior center and the Ridgewalk Parkway interchange on I-575 are both named after him.

WOODSTOCK, GA -- The city of Woodstock is mourning the loss of one of its well-known public servants. Former Mayor William G. Long died Saturday, Nov. 4, the city said.
Long served as mayor from 1974 to 1977 and also served on the Woodstock City council from 1967 to 1968, 1973 and from 1984 to 2005.
The late mayor's legacy lives on in Woodstock, as the city's senior center and the Ridgewalk Parkway interchange on I-575 are both named after him. Long was also a member of the Woodstock Planning Commission, and served as the city's Municipal Court judge.

"Totaling over 40 years of service to the city of Woodstock, he was a true icon to Woodstock, said Mayor Donnie Henriques. "We are mourning the loss of him."
The funeral service for long will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 7 at Little River United Methodist Church at 12455 Highway 92. Long's family will accept friends from noon to 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 6 at Marietta Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Little River United Methodist Church.

"On behalf of city officials and staff, our thoughts and prayers remain with the family during this time," the city added.
