Full February Break In Store For Cherokee County Students

The Cherokee County School District will not use any days from the Feb. 18-22 break to make up for the one closure it's had to implement.

WOODSTOCK, GA — Students in the Cherokee County School District won't have to worry about using their upcoming February break to make up for missed days due to inclement weather. Superintendent Dr. Brian Hightower said the February break set for Feb. 18-22 will be a full, week-long break for district students.

CCSD has made this decision due to what's been a mild winter, which has resulted in the system only closing school for one full day this season, and "positive long-range forecasts." This week-long break won't apply to the district's central offices, as they will remain open for operations.

"We look forward to the full implementation of Digital Learning Days next school year, which not only will increase opportunities for learning every day, but also will end the need for potential inclement weather make-up days in the school calendar," Hightower said in his message.

The Cherokee County School District has so far only canceled classes once — Dec. 11, 2018 — during the current school year. The system dodged a bullet earlier this week when the forecast calling for possible snow and ice accumulations fizzled out due to warmer temperatures hanging around North Georgia longer than expected.
