Funeral On Friday For Woodstock Student Killed In Crash
Madilyn Phillips, 16, died Sept. 8 in a two-vehicle crash on Ball Ground Highway at East Cherokee Drive in Cherokee County.
WOODSTOCK, GA -- A funeral service is scheduled for Friday for the teen killed last week in a two-vehicle collision in Cherokee County. Friends and family will gather to say goodbye to Madilyn Taylor "Maddi" Phillips at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 15 at Woodstock City Church.
Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 14 at the church, according to a notice posted with Poole Funeral Home in Woodstock.
At the request of Maddi's family, attendees are asked to wear bright colors or yellow "for our sunflower lost in the wind," a flier uploaded on the notice states.

Maddi, a 16-year-old cheerleader at Woodstock High School, died early Friday morning in an accident along Ball Ground Highway at its intersection with East Cherokee Drive (SIGN UP: Get Patch's Daily Newsletter and Real Time News Alerts. Or, if you have an iPhone, download the free Patch app).
A preliminary investigation shows a Buick Lacrosse driven by the teen was hit by a Kenworth flatbed construction truck around 7:27 a.m. Sept. 8, said agency spokesperson Sgt. Marianne Kelley. Traffic enforcement investigators believe the Buick was trying to make a left turn from East Cherokee Drive onto Ball Ground Highway when it was hit by the truck traveling northbound on Ball Ground Highway, the sheriff's office added.

Maddi, who took part in varsity competition and sideline cheerleading at Woodstock High School, was pronounced dead at the scene and the driver of the truck, 37-year-old Jerymie Thurman of Cartersville, was transported to an area hospital for treatment.
