GA Man Arrested For Attempted Sex With Teen: Sheriff's Office

WOODSTOCK, GA — Investigators with the Cherokee Sheriff's Office Internet Crimes Against Children Unit arrested a 56-year-old man who came to Cherokee County Thursday to meet what he thought was a 14-year-old girl for sex.

When Mark Maloney, 56, of Emerson, Georgia, arrived at the undisclosed location in Woodstock he was immediately taken into custody. Maloney had been communicating online with detectives posing as a juvenile prior to making the trip to Cherokee.

Maloney was charged with criminal attempt to commit child molestation, obscene internet contact with a child, sexual exploitation of a child and trafficking a person for sexual service.

He remains in custody at the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center without bond.
