GA Updates Daily Coronavirus Website, Including Hospital Capacity

The Georgia Department of Public Health updated its coronavirus website, now including hospital bed capacity, county cases and map changes.

GEORGIA — To help the public keep up with the daily coronavirus updates, the Georgia Department of Public Health updated its website Tuesday. These changes, which include updated county data, hospitalizations and positive tests, are designed to make the dashboard more user-friendly while providing an accurate picture of COVID-19 in Georgia, the DPH said.

A link has been added to access Georgia hospital capacity and current COVID-19 hospitalization data.

As of Tuesday, statewide data shows:

  • Inpatient beds in use: 146,311
    • 978.3 percent of capacity
  • ICU beds in use: 2,554
    • 86.2 percent of capacity
  • Emergency department beds in use: 1,759
    • 51.3 percent of capacity
  • Adult ventilators in use: 1,208
    • 41.8 percent of capacity

Readers are now able to choose the map as well as change the date being viewed. In addition, percent of positive lab data have been added.

To use the new features:

  • Choose cases, testing or deaths, then use the drop-down menu to choose cumulative cases, cases per 100,000, deaths, deaths per 100,000, percent positive, or data for the last two weeks. On the map, you can hover or click to find out additional details such as number of deaths, hospitalizations, case rate, etc. Selecting a county will also update the cases over time charts.
  • By clicking on the date above the map, you can select a past date to see historic maps, using the current color scale.

Two maps have been added to reflect percent positive by county:

  • Percent positive last two weeks: Reflects the percent positive tests reported through electronic laboratory reports by county during the last two weeks.
  • Percent positive overall: Reflects the cumulative percent positive tests reported through electronic laboratory reports by county.

The Georgia Department of Public Health reported a total of 241,677 confirmed cases of COVID-19 at 2:50 p.m. Tuesday. That's 2,873 more than was reported at the same time Monday.

Georgia also reported 4,794 deaths so far from COVID-19, 69 more than reported Monday. In addition, the state reported 22,429 hospitalizations — 296 more than the day before — and 4,117 total admissions to intensive care units.

No information is available from Georgia about how many patients have recovered.

Counties in or near metro Atlanta continue to have the highest number of positive test results, with Fulton County continuing to lead the state.

  • Fulton County: 22,484 cases
  • Gwinnett County: 21,936 cases
  • DeKalb County: 15,312 cases
  • Cobb County: 15,086 cases
  • Hall County: 6,687 cases

Counties in or near metro Atlanta also continue to have the most deaths from COVID-19. The lone exception is Dougherty County, the site of Georgia's first major outbreak.

  • Fulton County: 477 deaths
  • Cobb County: 349 deaths
  • Gwinnett County: 293 deaths
  • DeKalb County: 266 deaths
  • Dougherty County: 173 deaths

Three Georgia counties remain without a death: Crawford, Miller and Taliaferro.

Globally, nearly 22 million people have been infected by the coronavirus, and more than 776,000 people have died, Johns Hopkins University reported Tuesday.

In the United States, more than 5.4 million people have been infected and more than 171,000 people have died from COVID-19 as of Tuesday. The U.S. has only about 4 percent of the world's population but more confirmed cases and deaths than any other country.
