Army Corps of Engineers Accepting Hunting Permit Applications

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is accepting applications for permits for the upcoming hunting season at Allatoona Lake. The Corps will levy a $20 special activity fee for each permit issued. Permits can be obtained by mailing the hunter’s name, address, telephone number, pertinent state hunting license number, e-mail address, a self-addressed stamped envelope and a check or money order for $20.

Douglasville to Screen Locally Filmed Movie, 'The Founder'

Residents of the Douglasville area will get a chance to watch a locally filmed movie on the exact spot where it was filmed. The City of Douglasville will host a free screening of "The Founder," which was filmed locally in 2015, on Friday, May 12. The screening event will run from 7-10 p.m. and be held in the parking lot next to the Old Douglasville Police Station — which was used as a filming location for the movie.

Tornado Touches Down in Forsyth County

A brief tornado touched down in Forsyth County on May 1, downing trees and damaging at least one mobile home. The tornado was a relatively weak Category EF-0, with maximum wind speed of 80 mph, said Keith Stellman, meteorologist in charge at the National Weather Service office in Peachtree City. It was the only tornado known to have touched down in the metro Atlanta area as a wave of storms worked their way through the region.

Loganville Man Killed In Four-Way Crash on Hwy. 316

A Loganville man was killed May 3 during a crash involving four trucks on Hwy. 316 in Barrow County. Martin Andrade-Cerda, 55, was driving a box truck at about 1:45 p.m. when three other trucks were slowing down for a red light at Ga. 81, according to the Georgia State Patrol. Andrade-Cerda was following too closely and hit one of the trucks, according to the GSP. The impact knocked that truck into the truck in front of it, which, in turn, hit a fourth truck.

Georgia Drinking Water Among Nation's Least Safe: Report

Georgia's drinking water is among the least-safe in the United States, according to a new report by the National Resources Defense Council. According to the report, Georgia had the nation's fifth-most violations of the 1974 Safe Drinking Water Act in 2015, the year that was analyzed in the study. The rankings are adjusted for population.
