Gold Swimmer Picks Panthers
The Birmingham-Southern College Panthers are in NCAA Division III and compete in the Southern Athletic Association
Chattahoochee Gold standout swimmer Jocelyn Helsby has committed to Birmingham-Southern College to further her athletic & academic careers. “Birmingham-Southern College has everything that I was looking for in a college; BSC is a small school, not too far from home, and has a team that I fell in love with. They look for students with leadership skills and those who work hard, not just athletes who are successful in the pool. On my recruiting trip this fall, I got to spend time with the team and coaches on campus and knew that Birmingham-Southern was my future home.”
Jocelyn will study nursing in the classroom. In the pool, she hopes to help BSC win Southern Athletic Association swimming championships and qualify to compete in the NCAA Division III championship meet.
Looking ahead to BSC, Jocelyn reflects on her time with Chattahoochee Gold. “I have been swimming for Chattahoochee Gold for nine years now. I have learned so much from swimming on this team, not only about swimming but lifelong skills. Gold has provided me with amazing coaches who have pushed my limits and always supported me. My proudest accomplishment would be swimming on state championship relays throughout my high school career. I love the rush of competing in the top heats against some of the best swimmers in the state. My fondest memories come from being able to coach for Chattahoochee Gold. I began part time coaching my junior year and I find so much joy in teaching others what I love to do most."

Mike Wardwell is Jocelyn’s coach with Chattahoochee Gold. Coach Mike says, “Birmingham-Southern is not only getting a talented swimmer but they are also getting one of the most caring and empathic athletes I’ve ever been around. She will be a great addition to their program.”

Chattahoochee Gold is one of USA Swimming’s top 100 programs. The team is headquartered at the Woodstock Aquatic Center and also trains swimmers at the Cherokee County Aquatic Center, Mountain View Aquatic Center in Marietta and the Cumming Aquatic Center.
