Instacart Launches Same-Day Alcohol Delivery, Pickup Across GA

Instacart has partnered with 125 stores for alcohol delivery and pickup in light of the coronavirus after Gov. Kemp signed a bill last year.

GEORGIA — In light of the coronavirus, Instacart is now providing alcohol delivery and pickup after Gov. Brian Kemp signed House Bill 879 into law last year.

Same-day alcohol delivery and pickup in Georgia is now available in partnership with more than 125 stores across favorite local retailers Publix, Kroger, ALDI and The Fresh Market with plans to expand to additional retailers in the coming months.

“We know convenience is a priority for our customers, and adding alcohol pickup to our same-day offering with Instacart across Georgia is one more way ALDI provides a seamless ecommerce experience that helps save our customers time,” said Shaun O’Keefe, Jefferson Division Vice President, ALDI U.S., “Whether opting for curbside pickup — which now includes alcohol — or contactless grocery delivery, customers can now have access to even more products online, making it easier than ever to enjoy ALDI favorites.”

“At Kroger, we’re dedicated to ensuring our communities have access to fresh, affordable food and e-commerce continues to play a critical role in providing our customers with convenience, safety and value. As consumers increasingly turn to delivery to meet their everyday needs, we’re excited to expand our partnership with Instacart to give Georgia customers access to more items and aisles online,” said Jason Milburn, Director of Adult Beverage for Kroger. “Adding beer and wine to our delivery offering with Instacart makes it more convenient for customers to complete their entire grocery shop online and allows us to better serve our customers where and how they want to shop with us.”

The stores join Instacart’s family of more than 200 retailers across the U.S. offering alcohol for delivery and pickup.

“Same-day delivery and pickup has become essential for consumers across the U.S., and we’re proud to reach across more aisles, so Georgians can now order alcohol alongside their groceries and household essentials from their favorite retailers,” said David Healy, Retail Partnerships at Instacart. “The addition of alcohol to our marketplace in Georgia not only provides convenience for customers, but also helps lift our brick and mortar retail partners who see a 10 percent average increase in customer basket size when they add alcohol to their e-commerce offering.”

The introduction of alcohol pickup across Georgia comes as the state adjusted to COVID-19 and made shifts in grocery, bar and restaurant business models. As it stands, alcoholic beverages can be sold via delivery and pickup and be served in a sealed container.

With the expansion to Georgia, Instacart’s alcohol service - including both pickup and delivery - now reaches more than 80 million U.S. households, up from 60 million in December 2019.
