Recycle Cell Phones, Shred Confidential Documents in Woodstock

Greenstock Day allows residents to recycle electronics, participate in a city-wide yard sale and shred documents.

Woodstock will celebrate Earth Day and the Great American Cleanup with a slew of events designed to allow its residents to recycle.

Greenstock Day will be held at the Park at City Center in downtown Woodstock Saturday April 20.

Woodstock will partner with Waste Management with an Electronics Recycling event from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. You will be able to recycle old computers, monitors and television sets.

There will be a $10 fee for TVs and $5 for computer monitors. The equipment in both will be broken down by Reworx and processed so it can be used again.

Other items that can be recycled include batteries, car batteries, compact fluorescent light bulbs, magazines and newspapers.

The city will also partner with Georgia Document Destruction to shred all confidential documents. The service is limited to five boxes per car.

Several neighborhoods will participate in a citywide yard sale tomorrow, Saturday and Sunday. The list, which can be viewed here, includes neighborhoods, Cherokee Bank and another sale taking place at the Long Senior Center.

The effort to promote recycling won't end on Sunday, however.

During the week of April 22-26, Waste Management will conduct a special trash pick up in which it will collect used appliances and scrap metal.

Items will be collected on normal trash pickup days and those that will be accepted are:

  • Appliances: stoves and ovens; washers and dryers; dishwashers; water heaters; air purifiers; humidifiers and dehumidifiers; refrigerators and freezers.
  • Scrap Metal: dismantled play set equipment; copper wire/pipe; metal lawn furniture (frames only); tire rims (rims only); metal sinks; bicycles (without tires); grills (no gas); lawnmowers (all fluids removed.)
