Residents Wanted for Woodstock Public Safety Academy
The academy will offer classes to teach residents on the operations and responsibilities of both the Woodstock Fire and Police Departments.

Woodstock residents will soon be able to learn about both the inner workings of both the Woodstock Fire and Woodstock Police departments.
Both agencies are now accepting applications for its Spring 2013 Public Safety Academy.
The academy will be held every Thursday between March 28 and June 18. Sessions will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Magnolia Hall (formerly the Woodstock Community Center). Â

The academy, which is free, will offer a series of classes "designed to enhance the citizen’s understanding of various aspects of both departments," according to a press release.Â
It's also intended to strengthen the agencies' relationship with the citizens while showcasing their responsibilities and risks associated with their professions.Â

Classes will be instructed by officials from both agencies and will lecture on issues such as domestic violence response, criminal investigation procedures, crime prevention, traffic and patrol unit functions, police K-9 demonstrations, safety planning, fire education, CPR and first aid.
A tour of one of the city's two fire stations will also be conducted. Any resident who lives or works in the city limits may apply for the academy. There are 25 slots available and will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Applicants must be at least 19 years old and submit to a background check before being accepted into the academy.Â
Applications are available at the Woodstock City Annex. The deadline to apply is March 21.Â
