YMCA Seeks Volunteers For Days Of Service Painting Project
The YMCA will paint bunkhouses that served as shelter during Hurricane Irma.

On September 11, 2017, Hurricane Irma devastated the southeast coast and displaced several Georgia residents. Cherokee Outdoor Family YMCA in Woodstock opened its doors to more than 30 people seeking shelter. The branch usually serves as a space for summer camp, outdoor fitness, corporate retreats and other activities.
In celebration of the YMCA of Metro Atlanta's 160 year anniversary, the Y will host the "YMCA Days of Service" event. On September 14-15, the Y will gather 1,600 volunteers for 20 community service projects throughout metro Atlanta. One of those projects will be the "Cherokee Outdoor Painting Project."

On Friday, September 14 and Saturday, September 15, volunteers will paint the interior and exterior of the Cardwell Manor at the Cherokee Outdoor Y, including the seven bunkhouses that served as shelter during Hurricane Irma. Volunteers will also refresh paint on additional facilities, including the barn, sports field fences, guard shack and the concession stand.
