Honolulu Police Department: HPD Continues Impaired Driver Checkpoints Through Summer

With summer in full swing, the Honolulu Police Department (HPD) would like to remind everyone who drinks to be responsible and plan ahead.

From July 1 through August 31, 2021, police officers will set up impaired driver checkpoints at undisclosed times and locations across Oahu.  This includes, but is not limited to, the Independence Day and Statehood Day holidays.  The checkpoints are part of the department’s ongoing efforts to reduce the number of traffic injuries and deaths.

The HPD is reminding the public not to drink and drive and that the legal drinking age is 21.  Promoting intoxicating liquor to a person under the age of 21 is a misdemeanor punishable by up to one-year imprisonment.

Honolulu police officers have been conducting impaired driver checkpoints every week from September 2020 and will continue to do so through September 2021 as part of the federal “52/12” sobriety checkpoint program.
