The approximately 60’ tall tree has a crown (branch span) about double its height. Following heavy rain and strong winds this week the uprooting of the tree has progressed, creating an increased risk of structural failure and ultimately posing a safety hazard to park users and nearby residents.

Currently DUF arborists are working with crews from the Hawaiian Electric Company (HECO) to immediately remove large branches near the power lines. Additional work will be required for the complete removal of the tree following the HECO work.

The small urban park will be closed for the entirety of the removal process. The location of the tree, near a residential lane off Kunawai Lane, will require periodic closure of the lane for the staging of heavy equipment. We are working with area residents to minimize the impact of the emergency tree removal process.

We appreciate the patience and understanding of the community while we expedite this necessary tree removal.
