Spectrum Announces Spectrum Digital Education Grant Award
Spectrum Awards Whitmore Economic Development Group $21,000 Grant as Part of Spectrum's $1 Million Commitment

Spectrum announced that Whitmore Economic Development Group is one of the recipients of its 2018 Spectrum Digital Education Grants. Whitmore Economic Development Group, a nonprofit organization based in Wahiawa, received $21,000 from Spectrum to provide resources for sustainable and diverse agricultural business communities.
Spectrum presented the $21,000 grant to the organization at an event on Saturday, March 30 at the Pineapple Crate workspace in Wahiawa.
“The Whitmore Economic Development Group (WEDG) is honored with having received a Spectrum Digital Education grant award that will bring 21st century technology into our rural, legacy, agricultural community that will permit us to teach and enable farmers to access and use email and the internet,” said Lilette Subedi, Whitmore Economic Development Group, Director of Resource Development. “This is a precedent-setting event for our community in Whitmore Village, and a real enhancement for WEDG's Pineapple Crate - the first-ever co-working space designed for farmers and other agriculturalists, including agriculturally-based entrepreneurs. We are so very humbled and appreciative of this magnificent blessing!”

“In our increasingly technology-driven world, the importance of digital education and access to digital resources cannot be overstated,” said Myoung Oh, Spectrum, Government Affairs Director. “Through the Spectrum Digital Education Grant Program, we partner with leading community organizations like Whitmore Economic Development Group to help bridge the divide and provide communities in need with the tools to grow and prosper in the digital age.”
Whitmore Economic Development Group, Waipahu Community Association and 21 other deserving nonprofit organizations were chosen from among more than 170 applicants as Spectrum Digital Education Grant recipients — part of an overall $1 million commitment by Spectrum to provide digital education in the communities it serves. Spectrum Digital Education grants support organizations that help educate families and seniors on the benefits of broadband and how to use it to improve their lives. Through the $1 million effort, Spectrum will also provide PSAs, workshops and other technical assistance to local nonprofits.
