Three summer months are excluded from the triennial calendar because no surf events are permitted during that time (from June through August). This calendar does not include non-surf events for the North Shore, such as swimming or triathlon events.

The current rules dictating permitting for Shore Water Events went into effect on July 30, 2018 following a public hearing on the proposed changes.
