These States Had The Fastest-Growing Populations In 2017

Americans are flocking to Idaho and Nevada, driving the high population increases in those states.

WASHINGTON, DC — Idaho had the fastest-growing population in the U.S. in 2017, according to data collected by the U.S. Census Bureau. The Gem State grew in population by 2.2 percent from July 1, 2016 to July 1, 2017, according to the data. Other states that saw significant population increases in 2017 include: Nevada (2.0 percent), Utah (1.9 percent), Washington (1.7 percent), and Florida and Arizona, which both grew by 1.6 percent.

People moving to Idaho and Nevada from other states resulted in the high population percentage increases there, said Luke Rogers, the chief of the population estimates branch at the Census Bureau.

An increase in births over deaths in Utah accounted for the high population rise in that state, Rogers said.
