Patch Pick: The Republican primary should be interesting for the upcoming election. Joining the group as of Saturday is Ammon Bundy. Bundy made his formal announcement along with a plan to "Keep Idaho Idaho." The Boise Daily was present and has the full story along with pictures of those in attendance, and the "Bundy Burgers." (My story)

Here are the top 5 stories for today:

1. A Boise elementary school in the process of being demolished was destroyed by fire early Monday morning. KTVB staff have video and the story of the fire and the attempt to gain control of the blaze. The fire involved the old Valley View Elementary School near Milwaukee Street. The newer Valley View Elementary school was not involved. (KTVB)

3. Three candidates are up for the vacant Ada County Sheriff's position and Margaret Carmel of BoiseDev reports on the background of all three. Ada County Commissioners will select from the three potential candidates next week after a round of public interviews. (BoiseDev)

4. Two local disc golfers are on the road, scheduled to compete in the world championships as reported by staff at the Idaho Press Tribune. Carolina Halstead and James Litchfield will be in Ogden, Utah starting June 22 to take on the world. (IdahoPress)

5. Alan Minskoff is the Idaho Traveler for Boise State Public Radio. Minskoff explores the small towns of Idaho, frequently forgotten and ignored. Take some time and listen to his stories of travels and places we often forget. (boisestatepublicradio)

Boise Fact of the Day: Turns out that according to city-data.com, the smallest town in Idaho is Peck Idaho, population 201. Peck is about 5 hours north of Boise and it's so small there isn't even a high school in town.

Boise Community Calendar:

- Boise City Council will hold a Budget Workshop on Tuesday starting at 8:30 a.m. at Boise City Hall. The meeting agenda can be found here.

- Volunteers are needed Tuesday in the planting of the new pollinator garden at Ann Morrison Park starting at 9 a.m.

Due to a range of factors, including habitat loss, pollinator populations across the globe have experienced drastic decline. Some species, such as the monarch butterfly, have declined 80 - 90 percent over the last few decades.

To help turn the tide, Boise Parks and Recreation is working hard to provide high quality, pollinator habitat by planting, monitoring and maintaining dedicated pollinator areas in Boise Parks.

We are looking for some pollinator champions to help us care for these important areas. Volunteers will help plant new pollinator plants as needed, add mulch to planting beds, remove weeds, monitor for pollinator use, etc.

Volunteers can register here.

- Household hazardous waste can be disposed of at the Albertsons on Vista Avenue on Tuesday starting at noon. The event will continue until 7 p.m.

- The Harris Ranch Community Infrastructure District No. 1 will meet Tuesday at the Boise City Hall staring at 1 p.m. The agenda can be found here.

Email us your plans for the upcoming Fourth of July if it is a public event. We are compiling a listing of places to go.

- John
