COVID Curtails Boise's Earth Day Celebrations

The pandemic translates to a smaller celebration of the 50th anniversary of Earth Day in the capital city.

The City of Boise is encouraging residents to enjoy the day and share photos and project using the hashtag #EarthDayBoise.

In a statement on the city's website, Boise states, "Though our plans for Earth Day, like many other plans, have had to change this month, we would still like to safely connect with our community and celebrate the 50th anniversary of Earth Day. Take a few minutes today to do something creative to celebrate nature and share it with us using the hashtag #EarthDayBoise. We want to see your window paint, guitar solos, puzzles, crafts, photos and whatever else you can think of."

The idea of Earth Day started from the observance of Arbor Day, a day when people are encouraged to plant trees. Arbor Day started in Nebraska in 1872.
