New Boise Park Officially Named Cherie Buckner-Webb Park

BOISE, ID — It's official – the name of the park under construction at 11th and Bannock Streets in downtown Boise is Cherie Buckner-Webb Park. Earlier this month, Mayor Lauren McLean announced the city’s plan to name the park in honor of the political trailblazer and fifth-generation Idahoan following name suggestion submissions by community members. The park name was approved unanimously by Boise City Council at today’s noon meeting (June 22).

"It’s an honor to acknowledge Cherie Buckner-Webb's incredible contributions to the City of Boise and the State of Idaho in this way,” said Mayor McLean.

The City of Boise and project partners including the Capital City Development Corporation (CCDC) and Eleven Eleven West Jefferson, LLC., along with the Downtown Boise Association (DBA), plan to officially dedicate the park on Thursday, August 5.

More details about the celebration that will be a part of the DBA’s Supersized First Thursdays will be announced later this summer.

Cherie Buckner-Webb Park will serve as a destination community space open to everyone. Park amenities include public art, shaded seating, streetscape improvements, public restrooms, and bike storage. They will enhance the downtown area and serve as a hub for community events. Construction of the park site is moving forward and installation of artist Matthew Mazzotta’s “Gentle Breeze” design is scheduled to start next week.
