Training Offered For Boise Residents On Overdose Intervention

Online training is being offered on how to respond to someone having an overdose.

BOISE, ID—A local organization is working to decrease the number of drug overdose deaths in the Boise area. Idaho Drug Free Youth is partnering with Central District Health Drug Overdose Prevention Office regarding what steps to take if someone you know is in the midst of an overdose.

This training is designed for teachers, parents, friends and will guided by facilitators gearing the information to the public. Participants will receive information on responding to an overdose and what resources are available.

In 2018, almost 70,000 people in the United States died from drug overdoses according to information from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. An overdose was the leading cause of injury-related death and two of every three overdose deaths involved prescription opioids, heroin, or synthetic opioids.

A staggering 750,000 died from a drug overdose in the US between 1999 to 2018.

Registration is required for the March 12 online, interactive training. Training for those in the Boise area will start at 3:30 pm and last approximately one hour. The training is free of charge.
