2 Restaurant Chains Close 6 Illinois Locations

ILLINOIS —After a series of retail closings, now two popular restaurant chains are shutting their doors. Over the weekend, two Illinois Bar Louie restaurants closed their doors. And in a blow to fans of their pies, Bakers Square is shuttering four Illinois locations.

Bar Louie, which was founded in Chicago in the 1990s and is now based in Texas, closed its Naperville and Chicago's Near North locations, the Chicago Tribune first reported.

The chain, which confirmed it filed for bankruptcy in a news release Monday, recently closed 38 locations nationwide. The company said it had reached an agreement with its lenders on the Chapter 11 bankruptcy sale, and will continue to operate more than 90 locations across the United States "in the normal course of business."

Bar Louie still has other locations in Illinois, including Bolingbrook, Oakbrook Terrace, Geneva, Matteson, Chicago, Mount Prospect, Skokie and Evanston.

Meanwhile, Bakers Square has permanently closed nine locations, including Alsip, Libertyville, Lansing and Orland Park's La Grange Road location. The Merrillville, Indiana, location also closed.

The Joliet Bakers Square closed in March.

In addition to restaurant closings, Illinois is also saying goodbye to stores including Express, Bed Bath & Beyond, Pier 1 Imports and Papyrus.
