Here's How Many Have Already Voted In Illinois: Election 2020

Plus: If you still have your mail-in ballot, drop it in a drop box or mail it Tuesday if you want it to count.

ILLINOIS — The polls have been open for several hours now, and despite reports of long lines in some areas, Election Day is in full swing. But millions of Illinois residents have already cast their ballots.

According to the U.S. Elections Project, 3.59 million Illinois residents have already voted, including 1.8 million early in-person votes and 1.7 million returned mail-in ballots. A total of 2.3 million Illinoisans requested mail-in ballots this election.

And if you're still waiting to turn in that mail-in voting ballot, now's the time: Your ballot must be left in a drop box or postmarked by Tuesday, Nov. 3, if you want your vote to count.

So when will we know the outcome of the election? In Illinois, it could be two weeks before we even have unofficial vote totals, thanks to a huge surge in mail-in voting. Illinois officials are estimating it could take until Nov. 17 to have unofficial vote totals tallied.
