'Hitler Was Right On One Thing': Newly Elected IL Congresswoman
Gov. J.B. Pritzker called Mary Miller's remarks "unfathomable and disgusting" on Wednesday.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — A newly sworn-in U.S. representative from central Illinois caused a stir this week when she spoke at a rally outside the U.S. Capitol, proclaiming, "Hitler was right about one thing." The speech, caught on video a day before Congress prepared to count electoral votes in the hotly contested presidential election, were slammed by at least one fellow Republican and Gov. J.B. Pritzker.
Rep. Mary Miller, who tweeted photos of herself being sworn in Jan. 3, spoke about the need for Republicans to "win the hearts and minds of our children," saying unless they do so, "within a few elections, we're still going to be losing."
But she took it a step further, declaring, "Hitler was right on one thing. He said whoever has the youth has the future."

Her words didn't sit right with some, including a Twitter user who posted video of Miller's speech and gasped, saying, "They're saying the quiet part out loud."
Not a great look for a freshmen Congresswoman to be caught on tape at a rally in the Nation’s Capitol saying “Hitler was right.” @Miller_Congress And for those who want to nitpick what she said, let me just stop you right there—Hitler was right on literally nothing. pic.twitter.com/KXbVT8jTr3

"I outright condemn this garbage," Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-16) tweeted late Wednesday morning.

Democrat state Sen. Julie Morrison of Lake Forest also condemned Miller's comments, saying, "Every person with a moral conscience should be offended by anyone quoting Adolf Hitler and should vilify these statements."
Morrison also spoke of the violence at the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday, saying, "As we watch the violent and shameful acts in Washington, D.C. unfold, I urge everyone to practice peace, engage in civil discourse and hope for a better tomorrow. There is room for peaceful protest — there is not room for violent treason."
Evanston Democrat Rep. Jan Schakowsky called for Miller to resign, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

Pritzker responded to Miller's comments during his latest coronavirus briefing Wednesday, calling her remarks "unfathomable and disgusting."
He added, "Let me be clear. Hitler got nothing right. This reprehensible rhetoric has no place in our politics. Illinois Republicans cannot allow this to stand and must condemn this vile, evil streak in their party. If Representative Miller was the least bit interested in history, she would visit the Illinois Holocaust Museum and Education Center to learn just how wrong Hitler really was."
Miller was among those who have gathered in Washington, D.C., to oppose the results of the presidential election.
Since Election Day, President Donald Trump has claimed without evidence that the election results are fraudulent.
Miller, 61, and a Naperville native, is among Republicans, including Rep. Mike Bost of Murphysboro, Illinois, who have said they would object to election results showing former Vice President Joe Biden as the president-elect. She has called the election results "tainted" and said "everyone acknowledges that fraud did take place in this election," although there has been no acknowledgement or proof offered of wide-scale fraud.
Miller was elected in November to the seat formerly held by retiring Republican John Shimkus. She shared photos of her swearing-in over the weekend, tweeting, "I will always stand for your interests and values firsts (sic)."
